Is taxing idle money a good way to reduce the deficit and grow the economy?
We can't afford not spending cuts; those would shrink the economy. We can slow the rate of growth of spending but also need to increase revenues to close the deficit.
Wouldn't the best way to do that to tax money that isn't likely to be used for consumption or business investment? Like top income brackets, corporate and business profits and passive income like capital gains and dividends?
Since these kinds of incomes are rarely used for consumption or business investment, wouldn't taxing them be a smart way to close our deficit and encourage spending over reinvestment to grow our economy?
